A D shape ring photographed from an angle that clearly shows its domed outer surface and clean profile.

D Shape Rings

A D shape ring is defined by its profile: flat on the inside and smoothly domed on the outside. The curved exterior gives the ring a softer outline and changes how light moves across the surface compared with flatter designs.

About D Rings

What makes a D shape ring different?

The name comes from the cross-section. Viewed from the side, the flat inner surface and rounded outer surface create a shape similar to a capital D. That domed ring profile has a more curved appearance than a flat court design.

The Tungsten 5D shows the profile in natural tungsten, while the Gold Tungsten 2.5D uses the same basic idea in a much narrower, gold-plated form.

Choose the curve, then the material

A D profile changes the silhouette, but material and width determine much of the final experience. Browse all tungsten rings for the heavier material feel, or compare flat court rings if you prefer a straighter exterior.

Project Atomic D shape rings are available in different widths and finishes depending on the style. Check the individual product page for the exact size range before ordering.

If you are deciding from photographs, look at the side profile as well as the top view. The defining feature of a D shape ring is its curve, and that can be easy to miss when the ring is viewed straight on.

Project Atomic uses the D shape across selected tungsten and gold-plated tungsten styles. Available widths and sizes depend on the individual ring, so choose the profile first and then check which material and finish combinations exist in the width you want.

The curved outside also changes with width. On a narrow ring, the dome is relatively subtle. Give it more width and the curved surface has more room to catch light, making the profile itself a stronger part of the design.

The material underneath still changes the experience. In tungsten, the domed form comes with noticeable weight; a plated surface changes the colour but not the basic geometry. That separation between shape, material and finish is useful when comparing rings because each choice can be considered on its own.

Questions

What is a D shape ring?

A D shape ring has a flat inside surface and a domed outside surface. In cross-section, that combination resembles a capital D, which gives the profile its name. The rounded exterior creates a softer outline than a flat ring and catches light differently across the curved surface.

D shape or flat court: what’s the difference?

A D shape ring is flat inside and domed outside. A flat court ring has a flatter outside with a rounded inner surface. Visually, D shape looks more curved; flat court looks straighter and more architectural. Which you prefer is mainly a question of appearance and how the specific width feels on your hand.

Are D shape rings comfortable?

Yes. Project Atomic rings use a comfort-fit interior designed to sit comfortably against the finger. Fit still depends on choosing the correct ring size and width, so use the size guide before ordering.

What widths do D shape rings come in?

Project Atomic ring widths across the wider range include 2.5mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm and 8mm, depending on style. Not every D shape design is available in every width, so check the individual product page for the exact specification and available sizes.
